Welcome to the pharmacology portion of the NTM dealing with antibiotics. The podcast I recorded for you is only about 15 minutes, dealing with some general principles and themes (though some may REALLY help you on the test!). After you listen to the podcast, read the article on appropriate antibiotic use guidelines for respiratory infections from the American College of Physicians, and the article on why you should really stop using fluorquinolones if you have any other options available. Finally, browse over the IDSA guidelines and know whats there and where to find it, so you'll be able to find information quickly on the test. It can't hurt to have an antibiotic guide available in a pinch, but specific drug indications and prohibitions should be addressed in the primary content of the module. There is some optional stuff at included on ultrasound and more on antibiotics for you to enjoy as you will.
In the big picture, I want you coming away from the module knowing that inappropriate (or even appropriate!) antibiotic use can get you in trouble and I want you to be familiar with guidelines that can help keep you on solid ground.Test tips:There are a few questions you are almost certain to struggle with if you don't listen to the podcastFor every question, I try to telegraph to you where you should be looking for guidelines. Don't try to guess. Just go find the guideline and you will get it right.
